Jesus is King.

Few thoughts on the new Kanye album; Jesus is King. Closed on Sunday you're my Chick-fil-A... Those words opened up the lyrics to the very first song I'll hear on the much anticipated Kanye album. I was never a fan. I knew Kanye cause a lot of People knew him for several reasons. Mine was his the larger than life picture he sometimes created for himself and a few popular songs, but he didn't really sing gospel, so I never followed his music. Fast forward to two three years back when news of his mental breakdown broke, that followed by his repentance and finding faith in Jesus Christ, plus all of that culminating in the release of his first 'clean' (no curse words) acclaimed Gospel album; Jesus is King. Being a 'music-phile', I just had to get my hands on the album And hear what our new brother had to say. So here it goes, my thoughts on a few songs and the album as a whole. Closed on Sunday. Probably the most popular song from the album. This song to me is one of the most mature songs to come from a rap artist who's big on mainstream music. It talks about what a lot of the songs that make 'waves' ignore; family. The track promotes the sacredness of holding those who are joined to you by blood close and never taking them for granted. More importantly though is the weight it places on leading a family under the light that God gives. It also gives Kanye another opportunity to say that he's not the industry's slave anymore. On God. How you get so much favour on your side accept him as your lord and saviour I replied... I personally love the flow on this song plus that vibe it gives that everything good comes from above. Asides the other stuff that Kanye talks about which i may not relate with it, it's nice to see Kanye give credence to God's grace for his success. Everything we need. My personal favourite. I 'luh' this track. It speaks of contentment. I look at it from the standpoint of the man in Christ who has all things and has no need to be envious of anybody cause he has everything he needs. My Best line is; what if eve made apple juice, you gon do what Adam do or say baby let's put it back on the tree cause we have everything we need. God is This song gives me 'the chills' in a very good way. At first I wasn't sure who was singing, patiently I waited for a rap line but the song ended with no rap, then I realised it was Kanye the whole time. I found it so encouraging cause if you thought you couldn't sing so well, let Kanye inspire you. Anyways at this track i feel anyone who is suspicious of the new Kanye should just give up, the convictions expressed on this track is something only those with similar feelings can relate. My favourite line; I know God is the force that picked me up, I know Christ is the fountain that filled my cup... It's dubs as an evangelical song too, an invitation for anyone who is seeking for that 'living water' to come to Christ. It's an amazing song. Hands on I feel It's important we understand where Kanye is at in this track. I don't think he truly speaks against the church, he just laments at the negative criticism and suspicion he recieved from unexpected sources following his conversion to full gospel music. Instead of criticism, let's remember that if we would pray for one another we'll not loose so many to the world. That I feel is the moral of the song. My other thoughts about the approach used in this song will be expressed some other time. Jesus is lord Legit a song of praise to God. A very short song that I really wish had trap beats towards the end like what happened in the previous track (use this Gospel). Anyways it's filled with horns and the Voice of believer praising his saviour. At the end. It will be unwise to think that the album didn't make an impact for Christ because as a result of this album many who didn't know about Jesus now do. It will be foolish also to say that Kanye used this as an opportunity to make more money, cause we all know what 'sells' in the world. I end this article with this verse of scripture. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord , make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Isaiah 40:3‭-‬5 NLT
