Practicing the Fruits of The Spirit: Faithfulness

By @Tea_withJerry

"The word 'Faithfulness' means being Steadfast in allegiance; It means being committed to a person, cause or message in such a way as to be dependable. It is commitment with purpose of positive distinction." - Excerpts from bible study on faithfulness by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

Why should we be faithful?

Simple! Because the Bible says that God is faithful; faithfulness is part of God’s personality and nature. Faithfulness is from God and of God. If God wasn’t faithful, then we shouldn’t consider being faithful.

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children."

Ephesians 5:1

The faithfulness of God:

God is faithful to his Word. There is none greater than God. God gives us His Word and always proves His character of being faithful to His Word.

When you act on God’s Word, He stands faithful to His Word and His Word comes to pass in your life. When you have God’s Word in you, He’ll prove His character of faithfulness in your life. Deuteronomy 7:9, "Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations."

"Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth."

Psalm 119: 89 – 90

It is important to know that faithfulness does not just work in your life; it is a decision you make. You choose to be faithful and to have faithfulness in your character and build it in your spirit. You become a faithful person by choice

The faithfulness of Jesus:

Jesus was faithful, and faithfulness was and is His character. Jesus was faithful to God who appointed him. The Bible says we should be like Jesus; we should have the character of Christ and be like him.

"Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work."

John 4:34

"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood."

Revelation 1:5

Faithful men and women have always been the key to God’s program in the earth, and from the scriptures, we see that God did great things with their lives. Some examples of faithful men in the scriptures are;

Abraham:

God found Abraham to be faithful. Nehemiah 9:7 – 8; Genesis 18:19; Galatians 3:9.

Moses:

Moses was faithful in God’s house; he did everything that God asked him to do. God testified that Moses was more than a prophet and was faithful.  Hebrews 3:1 – 2, Numbers 12:6 -7.

David:

Ahimelek, the priest of God, testified that David was a faithful man: 1 Samuel 22:14.

Daniel:

Daniel 6:4 – 5, Daniel was faithful; the scriptures say that he was neither corrupt or negligent. He was faithful in all his dealings. Daniel was true to God; his faithfulness was with direction and he was clear on who he was faithful to and what his faithfulness was about. He remained faithful to God even when he was persecuted by his government in things pertaining to God.

You must be clear on what you are faithful to? Who you are faithful to? and why you are faithful? We should be stubborn against anything that is not consistent with the Word of God and choose to be faithful to God.

The principle of faithfulness is to be faithful to God first then to any other person that requires our faithfulness as long as it’s consistent with God’s Word. 2 Corinthians 8:1 – 5,"...And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will."

Those who are truly sent of God are faithful. Faithfulness is one of the hallmarks of a man that is sent of God. Being sent doesn’t make you faithful, you are sent because you’re faithful. You may have been called but until you’re faithful, you will not be sent. You have to be proved faithful.

Areas to manifest the character of faithfulness:

  • Faithfulness in our service in the house of God.

  • Faithfulness in using the gifts and abilities God has given to us.

  • Faithfulness in specific assignments the Lord gives us.

  • Faithfulness in the use of financial and material blessings that the Lord has granted us.

  • Faithfulness in evangelizing our world: we must be committed to winning souls. Only faithful men and women will take the gospel to the ends of the earth.

  • Faithfulness in ministering to one another.

  • Faithfulness in our work place and in our business relationships

Blessings of faithfulness

Proverbs 28:20, Proverbs 3:3, Psalm 31:23, Luke 12:42-44, Luke 16:10-12, Luke 19:12-27

God measures your faithfulness in little things to determine your faithfulness for greater things. He measures your faithfulness with things in the earth as a determining factor for your faithfulness in the life to come. Whatever the Lord has given to you should be used for His glory. Bring Him honour and glory, for those who are faithful will walk in glory. Faithfulness is a product of the human spirit and it is our nature to be faithful.

DAVILANDA

Romans 10:9-10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

CALL TO SALVATION.
