As Paul said in Colossians 1:19-20, God has made peace “[through Christ] to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” God’s peace is a person. A person in the form of Jesus Christ.
'Peace' is gotten from the Hebrew word “shalom” which means prosperity, wholeness, well-being, success.
When Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. “[Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]”
Note the sentence in quotation. With that, you understand that peace isn’t merely the absence of challenges otherwise you wouldn’t need courage and strength. But it is power and dominion over those challenges and situations. Peace without agitation, full of rest and prosperity in spite of the challenges.
Peace can never be gotten from houses, cars and all the nice material things things in life. They can make you excited but they can’t give you a sense of wholeness and dominion over life.
“And a fierce windstorm began to blow, and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already being swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep [with His head] on the [sailor’s leather] cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?” And He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still (muzzled)!” And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness]. Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith and confidence [in Me]?”
Note, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith and confidence [in Me]?”. Now let’s read, 2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” The more you know Christ, the more your faith increases and the more confidence you have in who He is and all He’s given you. That confidence you have is the peace you possess.
In Mark 4:37-40, how could Jesus be so unperturbed to the point of sleeping in a raging storm? It was because He knew He had the Holy Spirit, an orchestrator of all things within Him. He knew at the sound of His voice the element of the earth would realign and be kept in check. He had the knowledge of God.
The spirit of God is not just with you, but He’s in you. He’s assigned an entourage of angels to your command. He’s put you in a different environment and charged you to play by a different set of rules. It’s only when you forget or aren’t aware of this that you begin to reason fear.
When you’re going into a rough neighborhood with numerous armed backup/squad, would you be afraid? Well I’m here to tell you you’ve got your own squad more reliable than armed men. One that has promised never to leave you. One that has said it’s you and me forever! Where’s the place for fear?
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”
Why? It is because lack of knowledge leaves you in a vulnerable position in the world but an acquisition of this knowledge transports you into an environment of glory that’s impenetrable to the darkness of this world.
Now let’s look back a little. Remember all the times you worried and were anxious. Look at it in retrospect, and answer this. Didn’t you turn out fine? Now I ask, why were you worrying?
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
His thoughts for you are good always, He has a plan always, remember this even when it’s looking like the plan has taken a left turn. Trust in Him with all of your heart and watch the peace of God be established in your life.
