The Spirit of the World.

Let's read 1 Corinthians 2:12, "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." There are different spirits we find in the bible. I thank God for his word as revealed in the Bible cause in the Word, I find that life is not about all we can see and feel. There is a spirit world that is more real than the physical world. In that spirit world, there are spirit beings, beings that exist and some of them seek to influence the activities of men in the physical world. One of those spirits is the Spirit of the World. This being that works in the earth realm to fix the attention of men on things of this world rather than on God. More than that, the fact that the spirit of the world also refers to the way of thinking of those who are earthy.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:48, "As is earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly." So there are two kinds of men. The Heavenly man and The Earthly or Earthy Man. The Christian (you and I) belongs to the class of The Heavenly Man. That happened the moment we got born again. Still, we are in the world for a time and for a reason. Our presence in this world means we on a daily basis interact with different spirits in the world. One of them, the Spirit of the World. The Spirit of the World makes the Christian who succumbs to its inclination to fix his attention solely on the things of this present world. Making him or her to; be proud of fiscal worth, human intelligence, outward appearance, etc. That spirit also if given the opportunity can make a Christian become uninterested in the things of God and more interested in activities that involve the use of his mind and body for sensual gratification irrespective of what God thinks or the work of Love to another person. The spirit of the world naturally works in the children of disobedience (those who are not born again) but when you become born again, that spirit is an outside force. The desire to please your sensual drive (because of your human body) against the will of God (expressed in the word) is not you. It's not coming from your spirit. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus by default. So how do you deal? Simple, tailor your affections towards the Lord by loving Jesus Christ and watch all that distracts fade away. Does this mean, you'll never be happy? Does this mean your outward man will never be gratified? The answer is No. What's this means is that all you do, will be in the light of God's word. Remember in Psalms 16:11, it says," Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand, there are pleasures forevermore". I love to add to the end of this verse; (a good feeling all the time.) It's important to know what the word says and It's important to know and have a personal relationship with the holy spirit. With these two things in check, you'll never be far away from God's will. Don't be afraid of enjoying yourself, just do so in God's will.
