'If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct. '
I had an interesting experience once. While studying the word I 'dozed off' on my bed. I woke up later towards the early hours of the morning, with a serious discomfort. I was coughing continuously and repeatedly. This went on for a while. While all this went on, several thoughts crossed my mind; "why is this happening to me", "was God trying to humble me cause of a personal challenge I was still dealing with, that happened just before the coughing incident", "will I die now go to heaven and Jesus give me a second chance so I would be more humble in life".
Crazy I know but when things like that happen especially with the feeling of guilt trying to rise, such a scenario is expected. In me, I had the leading of the spirit to leave the room. Mind you, while all this was happening, I had been confessing the word, casting out the devil and speaking in tongues, yet I was still coughing.I left the room after letting in some air cause the windows were shut. While in the other room I opened the windows and kept on speaking in tongues.
I eventually got better and joined my church for an online prayer. At the end of the prayer, my dad was about to leave the house, he asked I help take out one of the cars, so he could leave with an another then he asked; did you smell something in your room? Puzzled i was like what did he mean. He said 'cause your room was fumigated'. That was it, that explained everything. It wasn't the devil, I wasn't under some spiritual attack, I had slept In a room that was fumigated with windows closed and woke up coughing.
Why share this story? It's cause of the important lesson I learned from this. When you lack
wisdom; insight into whatever circumstance you find yourself, you'll run off with the wrong
conclusions and end up chasing shadows, which is actually what the devil wants. The devil didn't make me cough, he couldn't, but he was sure glad that there was the tendency that I would give in to thoughts of fear.
This is the issue with a lot of spiritual Christians, they blame the devil when the real reason
behind their lack of progress, is their lack of wisdom. I ask a question, I may be wrong but hear me out. Of the many successful Christians in the world, asides, ministers, how many speak in tongues or see visions? They are not many. The majority of successful Christians in their various fields of endeavor are not exactly the ones with an open display of manifestations of the spirit, yet they do more than others, in showing to the world that God is the giver of true Prosperity.
In my days in medical school, it was a well-known fact that it seemed to be the quiet Christians, who always topped the tables when the results came out. Some of our fervent brothers and sisters (not all) however were sometimes in the bottom half. What happened? Was it a temptation? One may say that God doesn't care about your success in this world, I beg to differ. Remember Daniel, he was devout and in fact a prophet, yet he was outstanding. So don't conclude that the church in this world, has nothing to offer the world but a message that will only take me to heaven, but won't give me a life of purpose and plenty (meaningful impact) in this world.
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
The lack of wisdom is the sad reason, why many tongue talking, 'wordites' will always be broke, when it ought not to be so. They pray and fast and some prophesy, yet their children do not look to them as role models for success, cause their impact is not felt much in their world.
This is not a downplay on Christians who take pride in manifestations of the spirit neither do
we seek to create the idea that materialism is the mantra in the kingdom of God but then again, wisdom is of God and the bible tells us that riches and honor come with wisdom (Proverbs 3:16). If this is true, should the Christian be devoid of honour and riches?
The lack of wisdom is quite prevalent among Christians who believe in the word of faith and
manifestations of the spirit. It should also be remembered that the true spiritual Christian is not just the one who is 'Woke in the Spirit', he is the one who walks in love as evidenced in Paul's admonition to the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 3:3)
In conclusion, I beseech you my dear brother and sister in Christ, to go for wisdom. Go over the largest collection of wisdom literature in the entire world, which includes; the book of proverbs, the book of Ecclesiastes and the book of Job and of course several other verses in the bible. Embrace 'her' (wisdom) like the proverbs tell us and she will give you honour.
